The hike from Westwood Lake to Mount Benison will take approximately three hours and has elevations as high as approximately 330 meters. Along the way hikers will find a viewpoint where there are panoramic views of the city, for novice hikers the well worn trails can lead the way and if that is not enough there are blue spray painted marks on the trees to guide the way.

The trails are perfect for hikers of all levels, from novice to expert, and it is possible to ride mountain bikes on the trails, that have rock formations, bridges that cross the rivers and a rock cliff. The trail allows hikers to see picturesque views of several of the islands, the town of Nanaimo, the Strait of Georgia and a view of the mountains.

There is one word of caution when hiking in the cold weather; hikers for their own safety should limit their hikes to ensure they return before dark. The views when hiking in the winter are spectacular with views of the snow capped mountains and the city of Nanaimo with lights.
